SATURDAY WEATHER OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT – 01/17/2026
Good morning, Garfield County!
Thankfully we had no significant fires in the area yesterday. However, we are still in an ELEVATED fire threat today. Gusty winds out of the NW and low relative humidity values of 15-20% will allow fires to spread rather quickly. With that being said, it is still advised to avoid any outdoor burning today. It will be a great day for indoor activities, as we will only see highs in the upper 30s. Lows will dip down into the teens tonight, so it would be a great idea to unhook any water hoses and keep your faucets dripping.
Here is your forecast from the NWS/Norman:
- Today – Mostly sunny and blustery. Highs in the upper 30s. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph.
- Tonight – Mostly clear. Cold with lows around 13. North winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph, becoming southwest 5 to 10 mph after midnight.
Safety Tips
- Fire Safety: Elevated fire danger is expected today. Please avoid any outdoor activities that could spark a fire, as the combination of dry air and winds can lead to rapid fire spread.
- Cold Safety: Wind chills will make it feel significantly colder (around 10°F this morning). Dress in layers if heading outdoors.
