0320L-THURSDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT 8/01/24

*EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 1PM UNTIL 9PM THIS EVENING FOR OUR AREA. Dangerously hot conditions with heat index values up to 114 degrees. ALSO, we are in a MARGINAL RISK for severe weather later today as a front pushes into the area. The main threat will be strong to severe downbursts as these storms develop and collapse. This will be prevalent through sunset as it appears right now. Speaking of downburst winds, these could exceed 80 mph if storms are large enough. We’ll advise as the day wears on.

*Overall, we’ll get a LITTLE relief if we do see some rain but it will still feel rough outdoors. Here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today-Mostly sunny. Hot with highs around 105. Southwest winds 5 to 10 mph. Heat index values up to 113 this afternoon.

Tonight- Partly cloudy with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening, then mostly cloudy after midnight. Lows in the mid-70s. East winds 5 to 10 mph, becoming northeast after midnight. Chance of rain 20 percent. Heat index values up to 113 early in the evening.
