FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

Per what I have read this morning from 5 NWS offices, get ready for another cold weather event. It may bring some freezing precip but the main issue again will be the WIND CHILL and COLD TEMPS. I won’t harp as much this time but I would definitely prepare for this. Keep up with the latest from your NWS Office and of course, GCEM. This said, between now and then, we’ll have a few fronts move through the area and there is a slight chance for some precip over the weekend. One KEY FACTOR in all of this is to keep up with the latest forecasts. They WILL CHANGE pretty often as winter weather is more difficult to forecast and models don’t always agree. It takes several models and good forecasters to come up with THE RIGHT forecast, not just one. You’ll find these folks in Norman.

I have had several folks ask about the maps we see on the NWS site and if those lines are accurate. LINES ON ANY FORECAST MAP ARE RELATIVE, THEY WILL CHANGE. During storm season we always tell folks not to get fixated on where those lines are. They are fuzzy and they will move several times during any forecast period. This also applies to winter. Just keep this in mind.
