0350L-TUESDAY OUTLOOK & INFORMATION FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-7/30/19

1- GARFIELD COUNTY EM- This is our app. Preparedness in Garfield County starts with this app.

2- No heat advisories today but we may see one by Thursday. I know you all are tired of me talking about the heat, so here is a myth and fact about a different kind if heat-Lightning!!

Myth: Rubber tires on a car protect you from lightning by insulating you from the ground.

Fact: Most cars are safe from lightning, but it is the metal roof and metal sides that protect you, NOT the rubber tires. Remember, convertibles, motorcycles, bicycles, open-shelled outdoor recreational vehicles and cars with fiberglass shells offer no protection from lightning. When lightning strikes a vehicle, it goes through the metal frame into the ground. Don’t lean on doors during a thunderstorm.

3- That wasn’t so bad was it? That said, here is a “not as hot as lightning” forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today-Sunny with highs in the upper 90s. East winds around 10 mph.

Tonight- Clear with lows in the upper 60s. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph.

HAVE A SUPER DAY AND STAY COOL!!

MIKE
