0258L-FRIDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-11/10/23

*Cool with light northerly winds are in store for the next several days. With humidity and dew point temps in the low category, dry and dead foliage all around the area, the Fire Danger is a little higher. It’s still in the low category but it won’t take much to get one going. Use caution if working with anything related to fire. Call 911 if you make that mistake and call 580-234-3473 for controlled burns.

*Per the new drought monitor, we are still Abnormally dry and the NE part of the county is still in a Moderate drought. This said, we are looking at an El Nino winter. Under what they consider normal, this could mean a wetter winter than we have been experiencing. Then again, it could be dry and a little warmer. Everything depends on southwest and northwest flow aloft. When one or the other comes into play, surface conditions play a roll in what happens but when both decide to get together and flow through the area, this is when we can have pretty rough weather. We’ll just take it week by week and see what happens.

*My thoughts per the last paragraph is that we’ll see several ice events and maybe a few snow events when winter arrives. We’ll see what happens. OVERALL, we’ll be ok so here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

 Today- Sunny. Highs in the lower 60s. North winds around 5 mph, becoming east this afternoon.

Tonight- Partly cloudy in the evening, then becoming mostly cloudy. Lows in the upper 30s. Southeast winds around 5 mph.
