0310L-THURSDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT 10/24/24

Download our GARFIELD COUNTY EM app. You’re NOT PREPARED without it.

*We are in a RANGELAND FIRE DANGER area today. Fire probabilities are elevated to near- critical and with wind gusts expected upwards to 45 mph this afternoon, NO CONTROLLED BURNING IS REQUESTED. Any fire that is started will get out of control very quickly this afternoon. Warm temps, low humidity, strong winds, and very dry foliage are the main factors for the danger.

*The above stated, keep your eyes peeled for suspicious activity out in the county areas.

*Weather-wise, the fire weather conditions are being caused by a trough that will eventually move through the area along with other atmospheric conditions thus increasing our winds. You can read the NWS discussions at  https://www.weather.gov/oun/

*Overall, we’ll be ok but please report any smoke or fire to 911 immediately so a quick response can be dispatched. Here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today- Sunny, windy with highs in the lower 90s. South winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph, increasing to 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 45 mph this afternoon.

Tonight- Mostly clear. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Breezy with lows in the mid-50s. South winds 15 to 25 mph, becoming north 15 to 20 mph after midnight. Chance of rain 20 percent.

HAVE A GOOD DAY!
