0255L-THURSDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT 9/19/24

*We are in a MARGINAL RISK area for possibly some severe weather later today. A weak frontal boundary is expected to stall along a line from Ponca City to Erick later today and since we’ll be back in the oven, per say, storm development could occur anywhere along or just south of this line. Keep in mind that everything is a rough forecast as this is a weak front so we’ll see where it ends up. All this said, if storms occur, expect outflow winds upwards of 60+ mph, quarter size hail, and lightning. The tornado threat is very low. We’ll see what happens.

*We remain under severe/extreme drought conditions and with thunderstorms possible later today, the lightning threat could start fires since the environment is very dry. Keep your eyes peeled for smoke and or fire and call 911 if you see any.

*Overall, we’ll be ok so here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today- Sunny. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Hot with highs around 102. South winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Tonight- Partly cloudy. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening. Lows around 70. South winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 20 percent.
