0305L-FRIDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT 9/20/24

*HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM NOON TODAY UNTIL 8PM THIS EVENING. Use caution while working outdoors.

*Part of the county is in a MARGINAL RISK area for severe weather again today. The balance is in the GENERAL RISK area. The lines really mean nothing as storms don’t see these graphs and then go wherever they want. Just be prepared for a few storms later today. The main threat will be DOWNBURST WINDS. Basically, the storms will form and grow quickly, rain out and collapse.

*We will be hot again today with temps around 101 so atmospherically the air will be thin thus giving us the collapsing issue.

*We remain under severe/extreme drought conditions and with thunderstorms possible again later today, the lightning threat could start fires since the environment is extremely dry. Keep your eyes peeled for smoke and fire and call 911 if you see any.

*Overall, we’ll be ok so here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today- Mostly sunny. Hot with highs around 101. South winds 5 to 10 mph.

Tonight- Partly cloudy in the evening, then becoming mostly cloudy. Lows in the mid-70s. South winds around 10 mph.

*Be sure to download our GARFIELD COUNTY EM app so you’re prepared for the fall storm season along with this winter’s weather.
