0321L-TUESDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-2/1/22

First of all, NO NEED TO PANIC!! We won’t see 10 feet of snow, ice, sleet or freezing rain. All totals except the snow should be in the tenth of an inch area, give or take and snow depths will be in inches. Believe me, WE WILL SURVIVE!

1- WINTER STORM WATCH IS STILL IN EFFECT FROM TUESDAY EVENING THROUGH THURSDAY AFTERNOON.  Precipitation will be heavy and mixed in some areas. For NORTHERN OKLAHOMA, 1 to 6 inches of snow is possible BUT HIGHER AMOUNTS are also possible through our area. ICE accumulations of 1/10th of an inch or greater are possible in Central and Southeast OK. Winds could gust as high as 35-40 mph thus putting wind chill temps well below zero especially Wednesday and Thursday night. These are dangerous conditions.

2- Like I stated yesterday, if you plan on traveling, DON’T! Whatever you need to travel for can be rescheduled. If the ice that’s forecast occurs, you probably won’t make it anyways and if you aren’t prepared to sleep in your vehicle and stay warm, reschedule the trip. Also, even on snow, it gets slick so SLOW DOWN if you are driving around here in town and/or out in the county. If you have a wreck, it will take time for us in emergency services to get to you. KNOW WHERE YOU ARE in the event this occurs. Hopefully, it doesn’t.

3- Today is transition day. Read the forecast for today and it should verify without much problem. Here it is from the NWS/NORMAN;

Tuesday-Cloudy. A slight chance of rain in the morning, then a chance of rain in the afternoon. Cooler. Highs in the mid-50s. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph shifting to the northeast 10 to 20 mph in the afternoon. Chance of rain 50 percent.

Tuesday Night-Rain in the evening, then rain, snow with possible sleet and freezing rain after midnight. Much colder. Lows in the lower 20s. Northeast winds 15 to 20 mph.

FINALLY- I have a briefing at 11 this morning and will do a live broadcast on social media IF anything changes dramatically. The graphics attached will change several times today so keep our GARFIELD COUNTY EM APP UP AS I WILL SEND OUT INFO OVER IT TODAY.

Enjoy the day!
