FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

THE RED FLAG FIRE WARNING IS STILL IN EFFECT UNTIL 7 PM TONIGHT. Many fires around the state yesterday continue to burn as I type. Our Garfield County Task Force will possibly deploy this morning out west. Not sure yet as we are still coordinating with state officials. We’ll advise as we continue coordination efforts.

I cannot emphasize enough folks, DO NOT BURN ANYTHING UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE. As of 0400 local time there is NO state or local BURN BAN in effect but we are asking everyone out there to not burn due to the dangerous conditions around this region. We had a very close call on south Leona Mitchell yesterday when Enid and Waukomis Fire departments battled a large blaze that was brought under control less than roughly 2 blocks before it would have entered a residential area. The terrain south of that area helped in slowing the progress of that fire. Many factors are involved in fire suppression.

Winds today will be lower since the front pushed through. We had winds gusting near 50 mph yesterday afternoon and we are looking at NW winds gusting to 25-35 mph or so today. That said, here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Tuesday-Sunny, with a high near 64. West northwest wind 9 to 15 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph.
Tuesday Night-Clear, with a low around 34. West wind 5 to 7 mph becoming south southeast after midnight.

Finally, there will not be a Response Video today for Emergency Management Week. I will mesh Response and Mitigation on Wednesday.

Stay safe and be extremely careful.
Mike
