0310L-MONDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT 05/06/24

*Download our GARFIELD COUNTY EM app and keep up with the latest from us and the NWS.

*Well, that was exciting yesterday afternoon and evening. We can do away with the tornado warnings now for a while. Welcome to spring!!  The first thing I want to convey is a big THANK YOU to our spotter network. All the Rural Fire folks, Sheriff deputies, and Enid Police officers that were out there feeding us ground truth information. It’s greatly appreciated.

*We were under the gun in the northern and southern parts of the county at the same time. No damage occurred up north but the southern 1/3 of the county did sustained damage. An EPD drone pilot will be assisting me doing damage assessment on the southern part of the county this morning and possibly this afternoon. Overall, we faired pretty well so at least no one was injured or killed.

*Yesterday did prove that we still have idiots out there that will block traffic and get into the wrong position just to get that picture or video of a tornado. This was the biggest problem for our folks out there. They hindered our folks from doing their jobs, which could have cost lives had the storms been more intense. We’ll discuss this more in detail later.

*Overall, we’ll be ok for the next several days so here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today- Sunny. Highs in the lower 80s. West winds 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight- Mostly clear. Lows in the upper 50s. South winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

Finally, we went live yesterday for the first time for several hours on social media. We hope that was informative and I know it was probably entertaining but you can see what we deal with when you were hearing the radio traffic.

For now, HAVE A GOOD DAY AND YOU HAVE TIME TO TAKE A DEEP BREATH AND RELAX.
