0315L-TUESDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-10/10/23

*Winds will begin their slow upward trend starting today. Due to what is called lee cyclogenesis in eastern Colorado which is the formation of a low pressure system. This will cause the pressure gradient to tighten which in turn increases surface winds. Today’s gusts may reach 25 mph but we could see 40 + mph on Thursday. We’ll see what happens.

*The fire danger will go up some so keep that in mind too. Any fire that does occur will move very quickly since we are dry and windy so make sure you call 911 asap if you see smoke or fire. Controlled burning is NOT advised today through the rest of the week. We will see colder temps later this week as a cold front moves through the area Thursday evening.

*Overall, we’ll be ok so here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today- Sunny. Highs in the upper 80s. East winds 5 to 10 mph, becoming southeast 10 to 15 mph this afternoon with higher gusts.

Tonight- Clear. Lows around 60. South winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

Winter will soon be here, are you prepared. This link should help- https://www.weather.gov/safety/winter
