0255L-WEDNESDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-8/02/23

*EXCESSIVE HEAT WARNING IN EFFECT FOR TODAY(WEDNESDAY) FROM NOON UNTIL 9PM THIS EVENING. “Heat index values” up to 112 are possible. We will be back in a Heat Advisory on Thursday, as it appears right now per guidance.

* The heat dome above us continues to move east very slowly and we’ll continue with very hot temperatures through most of the weekend. It appears we may see a front push in this weekend and temps will drop into the mid to upper 80s’ by Monday. Weekend temps will be in the low 100s on Saturday and mid to upper 90s on Sunday. Anyone starting to feel like a toasted pop tart? Dewpoint temps will remain fairly high while humidity will be fairly low and thus the fire danger will continue to slowly increase.

* As we continue into August, remember that it is summertime and we will be hot. These high pressure systems come and go and they are pretty normal. When they hang around for a long time, we have drought conditions. This one will eventually fall apart and we’ll end up under northwest flow once again giving us that opportunity for mostly nighttime storms coming off of the high plains of Colorado.

* Overall, we’ll be ok but use extreme caution while outdoors due to the heat and if you start feeling weak, stop what you are doing and go in and cool off, but STAY HYDRATED. Here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Wednesday-Sunny, hot with highs around 104. Southwest winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

Wednesday Night-Mostly clear. Lows in the upper 70s. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Heat index values up to 107 early in the evening.
