FROM  GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT

THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE IN NORMAN HAS ISSUED A “WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY” FOR SNOW, BLOWING SNOW, SLEET, AND DANGEROUS WIND CHILLS. THIS ADVISORY IS IN EFFECT FROM 6 AM “SATURDAY MORNING UNTIL 7 AM SUNDAY MORNING.

I feel this speaks for itself for the weekend. If you are planning to travel on SATURDAY,USE EXTREME CAUTION AND SLOW DOWN. Visibility will be low due to blowing snow. Snowfall and sleet amounts have been increased a little from 1 inch to possibly 1-2 inches. Could be more or less so either way, just be careful. Frontal passage will be early Saturday morning and by mid-afternoon we may be in the teens for high temperatures. Did I mention the WIND?? The WIND CHILL will be LOW so as stated all week, cover up if you have to be outdoors.

On a lighter note,  If you have questions for me, Email me at mike@gcem.org or send me your questions in the damage report part of our GARFIELD COUNTY EM app. If worse comes to worse, call me. Let me say this, if you don’t have to travel, stay at home. If you need road conditions, we have that info on our website www.gcem.org under ROAD CONDITIONS. This info can be found on our app on the website icon located center bottom on the app.

Your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Friday-Areas of drizzle before noon. Areas of fog before 7am. Otherwise, cloudy through mid morning, then gradual clearing, with a high near 62. South wind 16 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.

Friday Night-A slight chance of drizzle before midnight, then patchy freezing drizzle. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 27. South southwest wind 14 to 21 mph becoming north after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 29 mph.
FINALLY, this isn’t the first winter storm that we have ever had. Just use good common sense if you have to get out in this winter weather over the weekend. WATCH OUT FOR THE IDIOT DRIVERS. I can say this because I used to be one in my younger years. I think we all were at one time or another.

STAY SAFE AND ENJOY THE WARMER WEATHER TODAY.
We’ll advise as needed.
