0330L-FRIDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT- 3/14/25
HIGH WIND WARNING & A RED FLAG WARNING IN EFFECT FROM 7AM UNTIL 10 PM TONIGHT. WE COULD SEE WIND GUSTS UPWARDS OF 65 MPH TODAY. With the fire danger being in the extreme category, you may want to stay in if dust and smoke become too much. Hopefully we don’t see any fires.
At 0300 this morning, it’s not too bad but by mid-morning we’ll see winds increasing so secure loose items at home, then at work and we’ll deal with what nature throws at us. Winds will be mostly out of the SW and then we expect a front to traverse the area later this afternoon shifting winds from southwest to westerly, then from the northwest. Shifting winds can be a menace to any active fires that may be ongoing so we’ll watch this closely later today.
NOTICE- If anyone did any controlled burning over the last few days, go back out there and patrol the perimeter to make sure there those fires are out. Winds today will cause flareups. If you plan to travel, use caution on NORTH/SOUTH highways due to crosswinds.
Overall for now, we’ll be ok so here’s your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;
Today- Sunny. Areas of blowing dust this morning, then blowing dust this afternoon. Very windy with highs around 70. South winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, becoming southwest 35 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph this afternoon.
Tonight- Mostly clear in the evening, then becoming partly cloudy. Areas of blowing dust in the evening. Very windy with lows in the lower 40s. West winds 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph, diminishing to 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph after midnight.
HAVE A GOOD DAY!
