0335L-SATURDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT 04/06/24

*Download our GARFIELD COUNTY EM app. You’ll receive info from us and the NWS in detail.

*Our Task Force deployed to Sharon yesterday and have recently returned. All are safe.

*Yesterday the winds were a bit tough and a few fires got out of control out west. Our highest measured wind gust was 47 mph. Those were recorded from the Lahoma Mesonet site and Woodring airport. It should be a little calmer today as we await the chance for rain on Monday and Tuesday. Overall, we’ll be ok so here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today- Sunny. Highs in the lower 70s. West winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

Tonight- Mostly clear. Lows around 40. South winds 5 to 10 mph, becoming east after midnight.

Worst fears- Several people gave their fear when it comes to severe weather. Some were tornadoes, large hail, damaging winds, breaking tree limbs, power outages, etc. All of these are very legitimate fears to have. I know when the threat is there and a warning is in place, many folks do panic. If you watch TV weather, I understand the stress and panic and that’s why I don’t watch them.

I am going to direct all that gave me your worst fears to the NWS WEBSITE and I want you to read their information on your fear and it wouldn’t hurt to read up on the others while your there. That address is here- https://www.weather.gov/safety/  I will add my input in a few days and hopefully answer most of your questions from a personal stand-point. REMEMBER that knowledge is power in understanding the dynamics at play.

HAVE A GOOD DAY!
