0330L-SUNDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-9/18/22

1- HOT-DRY- AND WINDY is the forecast for the up and coming week. Not too much else concerning the weather can be said. Summer is holding on tight right now so we’ll just have to deal with it. There is hope that a Thursday cold front could push into the area but forecast models aren’t in total agreement. I guess we’ll bake until later in the week.

2- Again, we are in a severe drought and some areas in the county have reached exceptional drought criteria so anything related to fire needs to be used very carefully.

3- As per the fires yesterday, our biggest threats are people driving out to see what’s going on and getting in our way. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE stay away from any area when we have large fires. It’s difficult for us when fighting these fires as we had 14 vehicles out there with 6 fire departments involved and when you drive through, now we have a major accident possibility. We do well not running into each other with infrared capabilities but you don’t have that capability so please stay away from the fire ground and hopefully accidents can be averted. I’ll post a few pics of our fire on social media later this morning.

4- Here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today-Sunny. Highs in the upper 90s. South winds 10 to 15 mph with gusts up to 25 mph.

Tonight- Clear. Lows in the lower 70s. South winds 10 to 15 mph.

Have a good day!!
