0315L-SATURDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-9/17/22

1-Warmer and windy again today as we move closer to autumn. There is a LOW chance, per guidance, for some thunderstorm activity later this afternoon in our area. If storms were to get going, they would be diurnal in nature with wind gusts upwards of 50 mph being the main threat along with torrential rainfall under the stronger cells. Storms would most likely dissipate after sunset. Will watch and advise as needed.

2-We are still in a SEVERE drought and some parts of the county are experiencing EXTREME drought conditions. Elevated Fire Weather is increasing so use extreme caution if utilizing anything related to fire. With winds increasing and wind gusts upwards of 20-30 mph, we ask that NO controlled burning be exercised today as fire could get out of control very quickly.

3- As stated yesterday, stay vigilant to the fact we have an arsonist running around the area so if you see suspicious activity, call 911 and the proper response will be sent.

4- Overall, we’ll be ok so here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Saturday-Sunny and hot with highs near 97. South wind 15-20 mph, with gusting to 30 mph.

Saturday Night-10 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms before 10pm. Mostly clear, with a low around 73. South wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 28 mph.

HAVE A GOOD DAY!
