0330L-THURSDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT 4/20/23

*A cold front will be pushing through the area early this morning shifting strong southerly winds from the south to the north. Wind gusts could possibly exceed 50 mph a few times before they finally lay down somewhat during the day. We are under a WIND ADVISORY until 0700L but winds will remain gusty throughout the day too.

*The fire at the landfill yesterday will continue to smolder for “quite some time”. Not too sure how it got started but rural fire units were called in to assist Enid Fire with spot fires on the northside of Southgate. There were quite a few of them. All rural units were released around 1715 local time. Units that responded were WAUKOMIS, PIONEER, FAIRMONT, COVINGTON, AND DRUMMOND FIRE DEPARTMENTS. I don’t think I missed anyone. Folks that live south of Enid will smell smoke for probably several days.

* The FIRE DANGER will remain critical even with cooler air that moves in. We ask that you Not do any BURNING of any kind since we are so dry. If you see any smoke or fire, call 911 immediately.

Overall, we’ll be ok so here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN:

Today- Mostly sunny and breezy. Highs in the lower 70s. Northwest winds 15 to 25 mph. Gusts up to 45 mph this morning.

Tonight- Partly cloudy. Lows in the lower 40s. North winds 10 to 15 mph

HAVE A GOOD DAY!
