0335L-THURSDAY OUTLOOK AND INFO FROM GARFIELD CO. EMERGENCY MGMT-8/8/19

1- MARGINAL RISK for severe weather later today and tonight. Quarter size hail, lightning, and winds 60-80 mph will be the threats. If storms occur this afternoon, they will be similar to yesterdays with torrential rainfall and strong winds especially as the storms collapse. Movement on most of these storms should be slow but southeasterly. We’ll see what develops!

 2- MYTHS & FACTS- Yesterday I stated we would discuss electrical issues so today here is one EVERYONE needs to pay close attention too or you might get zapped!!

MYTH: Wood is an insulator and wooden ladders cannot conduct electricity.

FACT: Wood can conduct electricity, especially when wet or when it has metal brackets. Using a wooden ladder when working with live electrical wiring is not a good idea. Additional safeguards such as grounding all equipment, wearing voltage insulated gloves, and only working with circuits that are turned off should be followed. WOW! I FEEL ENERGIZED ALREADY! It is usually a good idea to just call an electrician. It minimizes your risk.

3- Here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Thursday– 40% chance of showers and thunderstorms. Partly sunny and hot with a high near 97. Heat index values as high as 100. South wind 5 to 15 mph.

Thursday Night-50 percent chance for thunderstorms. Low around 73 with east-southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.

HAVE A GOOD DAY!!
