0305L-WEDNESDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-12/21/22

GARFIELD COUNTY EM is our notification and preparedness app. You’re best prepared with it than without it.

1- One more day of fairly warm temps and then later tonight, the bottom will definitely fall out as the stronger cold front brings in Continental Polar air. All week long we have stressed the wind chill risks so you should know them by now. One thing I haven’t mentioned but was on those links I attached was HYPOTHERMIA. SEE LINK- https://www.weather.gov/safety/cold-during  In the middle of this page, read about hypothermia. It’s is very dangerous.

2- Right now, we are in a WIND CHILL WATCH. This means to be prepared for the really cold wind chill temps. I need to stress that you take this seriously. A wind chill warning “may” be in the works depending on forecast winds. We’ll see what happens. Overall, just cover up in layers if you have to be outdoors during any on this. If your clothes get wet, get them changed asap. If you end up with hypothermia, your life WILL be in danger.

3- RESPONDERS- Remember that we are human too. All of these cold weather reminders are made for the public but apply to us too. We tend to overlook our safety for the well being of others so take that extra few seconds to properly cover your skin and your faces. You don’t want to be out there helping others and end up damaging your hands, face, and possibly your health. Do the best you can to protect YOU too.

Overall, we’ll be ok as long as YOU PREPARE accordingly for what you do every day. Here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today-Mostly cloudy this morning, then becoming partly sunny. Highs in the mid-40s. South winds 15 to 20 mph.

Tonight-Partly cloudy in the evening, then mostly cloudy with a slight chance of rain and snow after midnight. Very windy and cold with lows around 7 above. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Winds increasing from the north 25 to 35 mph with gusts up to 50 mph after midnight. Chance of precipitation 20 percent. Wind chill values as low as 12 below after midnight.

HAVE A GOOD DAY!
