DIRECTORS’ COMMENT

I am being asked a lot of questions concerning medical issues on those infected and those that thought they might be infected. In my Emergency Management position, I am privy to certain information but am NOT given personal information on patients. That would be a HIPPA violation. If I am out on an emergency call whether it’s a car wreck, medical call, or some sort of fire, we as responders are FORBIDDEN to share that information with ANYONE except medical transport personnel if its information that affects that patient. This includes our spouses. We could be sued and be kicked off departments if we ever did this and got caught. We really stress this in training for our newer responders because they come on wanting to save the world. Many folks out there apparently are experts in medical issues and don’t understand these rules. They are usually the ones that start rumors.

DURING THIS PANDEMIC, take the time to actually read the stats and if a statistic isn’t there RESEARCH it and don’t make stuff up. As I have stated in past posts, rumors could come back to haunt you. Spread facts, not rumors.

HAVE A GOOD DAY!

MIKE
