0330L-FRIDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT 03/29/24

*Dry and windy today with some wind gusts upwards of 30-40 mph. Winds will relax some on Saturday but will increase again late Saturday into Sunday. We should see an influx of moisture later on Sunday into Monday as another storm system moves towards us. There is a low chance for severe weather in the area Monday afternoon. We’ll see how that develops.

*Overall, we’ll be ok so here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Friday- Partly sunny in the morning, then becoming mostly cloudy. Breezy with highs in the lower 70s. South winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph.

Friday Night- Mostly clear. Lows in the upper 40s. South winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph.

*The Fire Danger is Elevated so we will ask that NO CONTROLLED BURNING be done today. A spark from mowing yesterday started a fire in SW Garfield County and burned approximately 400 acres. It took units from 9 Garfield County Departments, 3 Major County Departments and 1 Kingfisher County Department to get that fire under control. Please be careful out there. We are dry and all it takes is that SPARK. You may asked why so many units? Dry grasses, wind gusts to roughly 30 mph, and structures(homes) were just north of the fire ground. The fire was brought under control about 200 yards from structures on the west side and about 300 yards from structures on the east side. A slower response could have been catastrophic for those homeowners. Thanks for all that responded as quickly as you did.

*Be sure to download our GARFIELD COUNTY EM app as you’ll receive advisories and warnings “directly” from the NWS, IN DETAIL. You’ll also receive information from us.

HAVE A GOOD DAY!
