0420L-FRIDAY UPDATE FROM ENID/GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-5/4/18

1- You are going to love at least the next 4 days. Warm temps, nearly perfect skies, light winds, gnats, a few spiders, etc. Get outside and enjoy!

2-For those of you that weren’t totally prepared for the” possibility” of tornadoes the other day, now is a good time for you to get that done. No rush, no pressure, just a severe sunshine warning that will be in effect for the next several days. Seriously though, planning is important so get it done. Back many years ago when I worked for my dad he had a small card that had this written on it: YOUR LACK OF PLANNING DOESN’T CONSTITUTE AN EMERGENCY ON MY PART! Makes sense to me.

3-Some folks ask about our level of preparedness in emergency services. Do see us training out there? Do you read that we go to conferences? Do you see me write that I am going to another city for a meeting? Training is always involved. We get with others to train, share experiences, and hopefully learn from those. It’s all part of planning and being prepared.

4-I am glad that coming up on 22 years as your EMERGENCY MANAGER that we haven’t had a devastating event here in our area. We’ve come close a few times but understand this mindset, when you have a wreck, we come to help. If we, as a city or county have an incident, other jurisdictions will be here to help us. If it’s massive, state and federal folks will be here to help. It’s a protocol we follow. IT ALL STARTS WITH A BASIC THING WE CALL – PREPAREDNESS.

5- Here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Friday-Sunny, with a high near 75. North northeast wind 8 to 11 mph.

Friday Night-Mostly clear, with a low around 52. North northeast wind around 6 mph becoming calm in the evening.

HAVE A GREAT DAY!!

MIKE
