0315L-FRIDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-9/01/23

*Warm and dry weather is forecast for over the weekend. There is an outside chance for rain by the middle of next week but I’m not holding my breath on that one yet. The oppressive heat we had in the mid to late August timeframe shouldn’t be duplicated with the heat this weekend as dewpoint temps should be lower. We’ll see temps in the upper 90s and stronger winds. You will still need to be careful out there. Stay hydrated.

*The above being said, foliage outside, though still green, is very stressed due do to the heat. Use extreme caution if you plan on conducting a controlled burn and be sure and let dispatch know at 580-234-FIRE (3473). If you all see smoke or fire CALL 9-1-1.

*Today starts PREPAREDNESS MONTH here in Oklahoma. I wrote a document a few years ago that still applies today so here is a link to that and I will be writing short briefs during the month and posting them here. The Link- https://gcem.org/about-us/preparedness-comments/   You can see preparedness info on our app under YOUR EMERGENCY and click PREPAREDNESS. These will be modified a little through the month too.

*Overall, we’ll be ok so here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today- Sunny. Highs in the mid-90s. South winds 10 to 15 mph gusting to 20 mph.

Tonight-Clear. Lows in the lower 60s. Southeast winds 5 to 10 mph.

HAVE A GOOD DAY!
