FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-SATURDAY-12/9/17

The FIRE DANGER will remain with us all winter. Even with rainfall, that would be great for the ground but the foliage above the ground will still be dormant. It would only make fighting the fire more difficult since we would be dealing with soft ground and muddy conditions. The best thing here is to continue to be extremely careful when fire is utilized for anything. REPORT ANY SMOKE OR FIRE TO 911 ASAP.

The fire picture below was taken by me in 2013 south of Hillsdale in Northwestern Garfield County. This fire was started by a controlled burn in 35 mph winds with wind gusts to 45 mph and took 9 fire departments almost 8 hours to put out. This was a very dangerous fire and it can happen again. This is why we ask you to be EXTREMELY CAREFUL out there. I have used this pic before so some of you may have seen this in the past. OK, moving on to weather..

Weather-wise as stated yesterday, we’ll have some day’s cooler and some warmer but remember winter is coming. No precipitation is expected in the foreseeable future so hang in there. Here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today-Sunny, with a high near 52. North northwest wind 7 to 13 mph.

Tonight-Clear, with a low around 29. Northwest wind 5 to 7 mph becoming southwest in the evening.
