0340L-SATURDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT 05/25/24

*MODERATE RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER LATER TODAY AND TONIGHT. “ALL” HAZARDS ARE POSSIBLE. After reading the Storm Prediction Centers Outlook, we could possibly end up in a HIGH RISK. There are several complicated factors, per guidance, in place right now that precludes this but if those factors come together, the risk increases. Either way, spotters will be on stand-by and will be needed even after dark if this mess comes together.

*The above stated, everything depends on where any surface based storms can get going. This doesn’t appear to be an all out severe weather outbreak. We may only have one or two storms and will they be high based or surface based. That does make a difference in the tornado or hail department. As I always say, NO NEED TO PANIC. We do have another briefing this morning and I will share that info with you all after it ends just before noon.

*The biggest threat out there if we do have storms here will be the storm chase community. A lot of reckless driving will be on-going so use caution if you decide to get out and drive around. If storms are occurring this is NOT a good idea.

Overall, we’ll be ok so here is your forecast from today from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today- Sunny. A slight chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Some thunderstorms may be severe. Highs around 90. East winds 10 to 15 mph, becoming southeast 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph this afternoon. Chance of rain 20 percent.

Tonight- Partly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms in the evening, then mostly clear with a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Some thunderstorms may be severe. Lows in the upper 60s. South winds 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 35 mph. Chance of rain 40 percent.

I’ll update around noon time or so. HAVE A GOOD DAY!
