0310L-SATURDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-10/28/23

The graphics attached are from late yesterday but still apply for the forecast.

*It’s going to be an interesting next 5 days with several cold fronts, showers and possibly thunderstorms, along with freezing precipitation, and finally the wind chill down into the teens. Other than these things, a normal fall weekend! I won’t go into deep detail on what’s going on atmospherically, but here is a link to the discussion. It’s long and a bit technical. https://forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=OUN&issuedby=OUN&product=AFD&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1   The discussion is updated several times during the day so go here and check it out if you’re interested.

*A key factor to remember for today is we won’t see freezing temps until early Sunday morning. After that, overnight lows will be below freezing along with the wind chill temps. If you plan on traveling, especially out west, check the forecast often so you’re not taken by surprise if something happens and drive carefully. Today will be fairly miserable as will the next several days. You knew it was coming so hopefully you are prepared.

*Overall, we’ll be ok so here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today- Showers, drizzle likely with isolated thunderstorms. Highs in the upper 40s. Northeast winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Tonight- A slight chance of thunderstorms. Rain showers and drizzle likely in the evening, then rain showers after midnight. Cold with lows in the lower 30s. North winds around 10 mph, increasing to 15 to 20 mph with gusts up to 30 mph after midnight. Chance of rain 80 percent.
