0305L-THURSDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-7/06/23

* WE ARE IN A SEVERE THUNDERSTORM WATCH UNTIL 0800 LOCAL TIME. We are also in a SLIGHT RISK AREA FOR SEVERE STORMS TODAY AND TONIGHT. Right now, 0245L, a line of storms have formed from Watonga up through the Salt Plains area. These are not severe but will produce heavy rainfall as they build. This said, the severe threat for today has winds upwards into the 70 mph gust area and large hail will be our main threats. The radar pic is from 0300 Local time.

*As the mess of storms in the Panhandle/SW Kansas move into the body of NW Oklahoma, we’ll keep an eye out on how they track, Those storms could affect the area in 2 to 3 hours or so depending on their speed eastward.

Overall, we’ll be ok so just be prepared for heavy rainfall as the day progresses. Here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Today- Showers with a chance of thunderstorms this morning, then a chance of showers and thunderstorms this afternoon. Some thunderstorms may produce damaging winds this morning. Highs around 80. Northeast winds around 10 mph with gusts up to 20 mph, becoming east this afternoon. Chance of rain near 100 percent.

Tonight- Partly cloudy in the evening, then mostly cloudy with a chance of showers and thunderstorms after midnight. Humid with lows in the upper 60s. East winds 5 to 10 mph. Chance of rain 50 percent.
