0330L-THURSDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-10/12/23

*The winds will blow and the dirt will fly so be ready for higher wind gusts today. We are in a WIND ADVISORY from noon until 7pm this evening. We can expect winds of 20-30 mph with some gusts upwards of 45 mph. East/West traffic should stay “Driver Aware” for very strong crosswinds. Wind Gusts can hit you with no warning so please pay attention to your driving, especially out on the highways.

*The Fire Danger is elevated today. A RED FLAG WARNING is in effect out west. Since foliage here in the area hasn’t frozen yet, it’s still mostly green but its very dry. If a fire gets going, it will burn quickly, just with a lot of smoke. I will send out a sit-rep to all fire departments on spread components expected, later this morning.

*We expect the cold front to push in during the overnight hours. Estimated time would be between midnight and 5am. After frontal -passage, wind gusts will average around 35-40 mph. Winds will come down over the weekend but sustained winds of 15-25 mph with gusts to 30 are possible through the weekend. There is also a chance for rain with the front but don’t hold your breath on this part yet.

*OVERALL, we’ll be ok so here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;
