0320L-WEDNESDAY OUTLOOK FROM GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT 02/28/24

*Tuesday was an interesting day. Winds gusting to near 60, dirt flying everywhere, and smoke from the fires in NW Oklahoma and from the fires in Texas that blew in with the wind. There were several smaller fires here in town and around the county but responders were able to respond quickly and stop those from spreading. As per the fires out west, Forestry is in charge of those and State Emergency Management is coordinating with them on resources.  Just FYI, several town-wide evacuations were conducted due to the fires and over 30,000 acres burned. That number will change today.

*Weather-wise, winds will average 10-15mph with occasional gusts to 20mph. Winds will also lay down this afternoon into tonight. We should be mostly sunny during the day. That said, here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

 Today-Sunny. Much cooler with highs in the upper 40s. North winds 10 to 15 mph.

Tonight-Mostly clear in the evening, then becoming partly cloudy. Cold with lows in the upper 20s. South winds 5 to 10 mph.

*FOOD FOR THOUGHT- if we had the threat here that occurred in the eastern Texas Panhandle and NW Oklahoma and we called for you to evacuate, WHAT WOULD YOU DO, WHERE WOULD YOU GO? This is something to consider in the event it actually occurs.

HAVE A GOOD DAY!
