0400L-WEDNESDAY UPDATE FROM ENID/GARFIELD COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT-MAY 2, 2018

1-ENHANCED RISK FOR SEVERE WEATHER LATER TODAY AND TONIGHT. AS OF RIGHT NOW 0300L, THE RISKS ARE HIGH WINDS, VERY LARGE HAIL, and A MEDIUM RISK FOR TORNADOES, “in the stronger cells.” Does this mean we will see all of these occur? NO, but conditions are ripe for any and/or all to occur somewhere in the risk area. DON’T GET WOUND UP ABOUT THIS. Storms happen every year. Again, some will be stronger than others so we’ll see where they form and go from there. We are expecting storm formation later this afternoon along and or ahead of the dryline out west into the evening hours and overnight.

2- We will have a briefing this morning with the NWS and then I’ll do a FACEBOOK Live broadcast to give you the latest info.

3-OUR SPOTTERS were briefed last night and all have been put on standby alert status. Also, our Search and Rescue folks have also been briefed.

4-Download our GARFIELD COUNTY EM app as I will send a few advisories over that as we get them. NWS WARNINGS automatically come through our app along with information LOCALLY from our spotter network as we receive information. Listen to our LOCAL RADIO STATIONS for important information. Depending on what happens, they may be with us in our Operations Center.

5-Overall, we’ll be ok. Is the risk real? YES but we deal with these realities every year and since we can’t stop storms, you and I should already be PREPARED for them. If you aren’t, make those arrangements now so you don’t have to try to figure out what to do in a heightened state of emotional distress. Decision making for preparedness purposes under normal conditions is what PLANNING is all about. ARE YOU PREPARED?

6- Here is your forecast from the NWS/NORMAN;

Wednesday-30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 1pm. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 84. South wind 17 to 22 mph, with gusts as high as 31 mph.

Wednesday Night-30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1am. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 67. South wind 16 to 18 mph, with gusts as high as 25 mph.

HAVE A SUPER DAY AND SEE ATTACHED GRAPHS.
